On the one side of his personality, Romulus, while seemingly cool and cold he can be a warm-hearted person who is loyal, kind and willing to follow his friends through the worst situations if they need him to. But he is also hard to get to know being far too comfortable on his own he won't make the first move to greet someone or start up a friendship and slow to trust those that he does connect with. Honest at times to a fault he is intuitive about how others feel and is often understanding with his friends and family.

However, on the other side of his personality, Romulus can strike hard, strike first and show little mercy to those who have hurt those he cares about.  Even temped when it comes to how others treat him,  he won't hold back if you give him a reason to think that you are going to hurt those who have gained his trust and loyalty.
History

Romulus was born in Nottingham, England after his mother returned home after she toured America on holiday. With Ellis's job as an art acquisition agent for the British Museum of art took to travelling the world with Romulus in tow shortly after he turned two, never staying in one place for longer than two months as there was always somewhere else, some new piece of art she needed to find, record, or courier back the museum. Not knowing who his father was, Romulus accepted that he was a woopsy, as his mother called all unexpected children, and he was fine with this as he had his aunt and his mother both who cared for him deeply and a very full life.

As Romulus got older and Ellis started to travel to less than safe countries to verify art or just lend a hand moving it to safer locations she started insisting on him having a place to learn some, any form of self-defence, not something he was so excited about. One thing that Romulus was very interested in was horses and riding lessons, Ellis often jokingly said that getting Romulus interested in anything unless it involved water or a horse was almost impossible. The truth was that although Romulus didn't notice it as much as he could have, simply because it was so much a part of him that it was a lot like breathing, something you do but don't notice really, he had a deep connection to both horses and water. Bother had a comforting effect on him and in general, he felt a joy and contentment when around either of them. Often seeking out one or the other when unhappy or in need of some time to himself.

Some of his happiest days were when he lived in the seaside town of Penzance where he rode along the beach almost every day. So close was he to horses that when he was younger he had sometimes insisted that he could talk with them but this faded into a simple close connection with then as he grew older and did not believe in his childhood ideas anymore.

Homeschooled as they moved, Ellis focused on teaching him about some of the things that she was doing, focusing on her specialised field of Roman history and mythology, starting his interest in history in general. Quite used to being on his own, happy with his own company he grew up confident and loving their flee by night lifestyle. Even with his life being set in an ever-changing location, Romulus had a stable childhood filled with little drama or anything out of what he thought to be ordinary. He enjoyed the travel and the art, as much as any twelve years old would, and in general life was good.

This was until his twelfth birthday when his mother took on a year long job cataloguing a large collection of art that had been donated to the museum by an ex-pat living in America.

Deciding that some time spent with children his own age and some experience with a normal life and school might do Romulus good, Ellis sent him his first normal school. Vastly unhappy there even though the school did have facilities for both horse riding and swimming as he quickly fell behind, struggling with the number of classes, homework and his dyslexia.

Spending much of his time alone or around the horses, Romulus wasn't at all happy until one morning when a rider was thrown from their horse because a couple of students had smuggled in and set off a string of fireworks. Spooked the horse fled the loud sounds and headed towards the open school gates and Romulus. Reacting out of instinct, Romulus held up a hand and commanded the horse to stop. Obeying the startled beast came to a trembling stop and allowed Romulus to get ahold of its reins. Once he had a good grip on them he calmed it down with soothing noises and gentle pats.

Seeing this, the history teacher, Lairus, a satyr, noticed him properly for the first time. After the incident with the horse, he befriended Romulus, giving him a helping had to cope with his school work and got him officially involved with the swim team which he coached.

Happier now that he was properly involved with something he had such an affinity for, Romulus quickly became the best swimmer on the team, winning a couple of local school swimming events and even started to become friends and with a couple of his fellow team mates when things once again went south.

It all happened a little before his thirteenth birthday while away at the big swimming event of the year in the next state over. Between one of the rounds, he was cornered in the changing rooms by one of the other school's teachers. Before his very eyes, the teacher became a Chimaera. Understandably afraid, Romulus tried to flee but that didn't work out, as the creature was between him and the door. Frightened and confused by what had to be a hallucination, an all to real, singe the hair from your arm hallucination, Romulus did the second instinct based thing in his life, he called upon the water in the walls and pushed the monster away. Answering a great wave of water hit the Chimaera giving Romulus enough time to get up and make it to the door which opened just as he reached it.

On the other side of the door was Lairus who pulled him from the flooded changing room and rushed him out of the school where the even was being held and to his care, explaining that he was now in great danger.

Shocked and more than a little shaken and weak from his efforts, Romulus simply followed Lairus, not really asking too much. Once on the road though and with enough time passing for him to once again get some wits about him, Romulus asked Lairus what was happening and why they were heading into the next state over and not back to home and his mother.

This was when Lairus relieved that he was a saytar and that Romulus was a Demi-god. Not believing a word of it, Romulus demanded that he pull over and let him call his mother. Lairus, pulled over, asking for Romulus to listen and showing him his hooved feet so that he would believe him as he quickly told Romulus about Camp Halfblood and why he needed to get him there as soon as he could and how his mother wasn't safe until he was safely tucked away.

Nodding, stunned by the revelation of what he was and what Lairus was, Romulus spent the rest of the car ride silent. Trying to come to terms with what was happening.

With a solid drive through the night and a very quick run while being chased by the Chimaera through some woods, Romulus arrived without to much fuss at Camp Halfblood where he was quickly told that his mother had been updated and knew where he was.

As fuss-free as his arrival had been, Romulus's Claiming was not. News that a child of Poseidon had been claimed was big news. Not liking the fuss or the attention that came with the news of who his father was Romulus distanced himself from the rest of the camp. With his whole life turned upside down, Romulus sought out those things that made life better, horses and water. Quickly making friends with a group of pegasi who informed him that they were related, distantly, but related none the less which was fine by Romulus.

Keeping his head down and trying to go un-noticed Romulus muddled along for his first year at the Camp, spliting his time between hanging with the pegasi and swiming along the shoreline. During that time he once again gained confidence and became more comfortable with the new world he had been thrown into Romulus started to hang around the group activities and even put a little effort into the events and training. But he still kept himself to himself mostly.

His mind had not had time to fully understand what had happened. One moment he was standing on the bridge, the next he was falling fast towards the rushing water below. The scream he wanted to let out was stuck in his throat just like the breath he couldn't take. It was as if all of him was stuck, paused at the moment from shock. Then suddenly the world shifted and tilted, and water was wrapping itself around him, cradling him and softening his fall. Aware of the water like he had never been before, it curled around him a lot like a cat twining itself around your legs. All he wanted was air and then the world tilted again and he was gentle of firmly pushed through the water and towards the shore where he found his mother waiting for him. A look of worry and apology on her face, "I am sorry I did that without warning. But I knew you would be fine... The water would not have let harm come to you."
